Chihuly Across the Country

Tucumcari, New Mexico

Days are galloping by, and as they do, we lose track of the date and day and what we saw when. But the events are memorable, and one artist and his work already have appeared and reappeared three times on this trip.

If you have visited the Bushnell in Hartford within the last few years, you will recall the striking red glass chandelier hanging in the second story window – I think it has been referred to as ‘the chili pepper chandelier.’ It is a product of the imagination of Dale Chihuly, and he has an installation currently on display at Cheekwood, a botanical garden in Nashville, Tennessee. A few photographs taken by David’s sister, Susan, give a sample of the work on the grounds. The two of us enjoyed a late afternoon visit and took in all the spectacular arrangements!

Two days later, we toured the Clinton Presidential Library in Little Rock, and among the exhibitions we found the silver and white chandelier Chihuly designed for a White House Christmas display. Yesterday, at the Oklahoma City Museum of Art, I visited a fantastic permanent exhibit of Chihuly glass. If this serendipitous trend continues, I’ll let you know – and include a few more photos.

Cheers,

Judy
